Grants Pass High School

Program Assistant- Student Success Mentor

8 hours per day/188 days to work

 

Position Purpose:

We believe that every student can graduate and that every student needs at least a little bit of help.  Our mission is to provide students and families with a partner who already knows how Grants Pass High School works.  The 9th Grade Student Success mentor helps students adapt to the school environment and guides them in making appropriate social, academic, and behavioral choices. 

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

Essential Duties/Skills

 

Essential Physical Requirements:

Light to moderate degree of physical stamina, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.  Ability to move freely around the office and school, making frequent trips around campus.  Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, as well as frequent standing, walking, and bending.  Exposure to noise and activity in a school setting.

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one of the following three options:
    • Two years of college study.
    • An associate’s or higher degree.
    • A passing score on the District reading, writing and math assessment.
  2. Under the supervision of licensed staff, provide support to students through various mentoring activities.
  3. Be effective at building relationships with students and work collaboratively with families, teachers, and other adults and/or organizations to support students.
  4. Be flexible and have the ability to adapt to changing daily schedule while helping provide student support.
  5. Have strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  6. Have strong organizational skills, ability to manage and track mentor roles and responsibilities.
  7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  8. Knowledge of and experience with computers and the student information system.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and ability to get along well with students.
  10. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  11. Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish preferred.

 

 

STARTING SALARY RANGE:  $16.15-$23.33 per hour. Dependent on experience/education.
