Riverside Elementary
Educational Assistant- Special Education- Site Based- PALS
7 hours per day/182 days to work
DESCRIPTION: The PALS classroom is a site-based program for elementary-aged students with significant challenges due to Autism Spectrum Disorder. This classroom is an ORPATS (Oregon Regional Program Autism Training Site) site and staff receives extra training and support in the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies including: Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Pivotal Response Training (PRT), and Functional Routines (FR). Our students require visual instruction methods including: visual schedules, visual communication strategies (icon exchange), and structured environments.
The successful candidate will have:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Also one of the following three options:
- Two years of college study
- An associate’s (or higher) degree
- A passing score on the District’s reading, writing and math assessment.
- Preferred: supplemented by college level work or special vocational training in Special Education principles and practices, behavior management, and/or procedures related to basic physical/medical needs and personal hygiene. Two years of responsible instructional assistance experience, preferably involving contact with students who have some form of learning or physical disability or special cultural, social/behavioral needs.
- Assists in the planning and implementing of specialized learning experiences of students enrolled in the program: confers with teacher.
- Other duties may be ordering, preparing, record keeping, monitoring, typing filing, duplicating, evaluation, correcting, other clerical work and other duties as assigned.
- Duties may involve working with students who need feeding, support with toileting challenges, as well as social/communication/sensory differences that may lead to challenging behaviors (restraining, at times, due to aggressive behavior).
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and ability to get along well with students.
- Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish preferred.
- Upon selection, employees will be required to pay for the following: $12.50 fingerprinting fee and $66 ODE fingerprinting processing fee.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $18.51-$26.73 per hour. Dependent on experience/education.
